On October 3, 2003,
German-American illusionist Roy Horn was mauled by a tiger during a
performance of the Siegfried and Horn show in Las Vegas. The animal lunged
at his neck and dragged him off stage. Horn, an animal trainer who was
celebrating his 59th birthday, was treated for massive blood loss and rushed
to a medical center for emergency surgery.
Horn's Natal Chart
Horn was born on October 3, 1944, at 11:57 pm (GMT +1), in Nordenham,
Germany (53 N 29, 8 E 28). In his birth chart, Sagittarius lies on the cusp
of the 6th house of work and health. Its ruler Jupiter squares Uranus,
indicating the potential for sudden changes in related matters. Capricorn is
intercepted in the 6th house, so its ruler Saturn co-rules the 6th house.
Saturn sits in the 12th house of experiences that demand that we let go what
is beyond our control. Saturn closely squares Horn's Sun, which rules his
Leo Ascendant. This indicates the potential for great demands or limitation
on his expression of vitality. His chart also includes a T-square formed by
the Moon in the 10th house of public pursuits opposite Venus in the 4th,
with both square Pluto in Leo in the 1st house of style and physical
constitution.
Current Transits
Currently, Saturn is passing through Horn’s 12th house. He’s going through
the final stage of a 29-year cycle of developing his ambition and worldly
identity. It’s time to let go of past goals and struggles, to clear the deck
and prepare to start a new cycle when Saturn moves into his 1st house. As
part of this stage, Horn is experiencing his second Saturn return. It’s time
for him to shift much of his energy toward “passing on the torch”— training
and mentoring those who will carry on after him. Transiting Saturn activates
the natal Saturn-Sun square. Shining his light and gratifying his ego has to
accommodate demands or limitations that are imposed by reality.
Horn is also going through a Jupiter return. Jupiter is passing through his
3rd house of routine activity, activating the natal square between Jupiter
and Uranus. Being overconfident or casual in routine matters at work and
elsewhere could contribute to sudden, shocking turns of events.
In addition, Neptune is drifting through Horn’s 7th house of open
confrontations, opposing his natal Pluto in the 1st house. His drive to
“make his mark on the world” is confronted by the importance of considering
life’s more spiritual dimensions. US President Ronald Reagan experienced
this same transit (Neptune opposite Pluto) when he was wounded by John
Hinckley in 1981.
Talk About It
Was Roy Horn destined to suffer such an injury? I don't think so. Even a
brief look at his natal chart and current transits to it shows the potential
for such an injury, but that was only one of many ways that the symbols
could have come to life. What other ways could you imagine the same symbols
coming to life, ways that would be healthier and more satisfying?
