BIRTH CHART INTERPRETATION (SAMPLE)

by Brian Habit

You have Uranus in Virgo in the 6th house.

Uranus represents how we become individuals rather than endlessly repeating only those behaviors that society has taught us. Through individuation we distinguish who we are from whom everyone else wants us to be. Uranus also indicates our unique brand of creative genius. Rather than waste the energy of our creativity in behavior that is shocking merely to get a reaction out of people, we need to channel it into something of real significance.

For you, Uranus lies in Virgo—the sign of the Analyst, the Critic, and the Perfectionist. Your sense of individuality is motivated toward perfection, toward embodying or personifying some ideal that you cherish by polishing yourself like a diamond found in the rough. To develop your personal spark of creative genius, concentrate on learning skills, assuming responsibilities, and act competently.

Your Uranus lies not only in Virgo but also in the 6th house, the house of responsibilities. This is the same house that contains your Venus. With Uranus in your 6th house, you’re motivated to express your individuality in the responsibilities that you assume and the skills that you learn. To feel like you’re your own person, you need to take a unique, self-styled or offbeat approach to providing something of benefit to others. You can count on having to break the rules in this department of your life, in order to be true to yourself. That’s where you have to be most willing to act without society’s approval. It’s also where you can expect to get some bad advice, so you’ll need to learn the art of saying, “Thanks, but no thanks” when people chime in with ideas that might work just fine for them but wouldn’t work for you. Maybe they try to tell you which sort of job you should take or how you should organize your work routine. Maybe they try to tell you how you should handle your health care. You’ll need to develop a tolerance for displeasing so-called experts, authority figures, and naysayers…or settle for playing by other people’s rules, trying to act like the rest of the tribe, and feeling trapped in a world of stifling gray conventionality.

What you do with your Uranian potential is up to you. If you choose to express it in high-functioning ways, then your individuality will come out in a clear and creative fashion. If you choose to express it in low-functioning ways, then your uniqueness will come out in a very garbled or destructive fashion. Let’s look at the darker potential first, followed by some of the brighter possibilities.

If you express your uniqueness in unhealthy ways, then you could behave like a conformist drudge, a rigid whiner, or a rebellious faultfinder.

Like a rebellious faultfinder, you could reject the established order for being imperfect. You run wild, opposing the establishment every chance you get, even if it gets you somewhere that you really don’t want to be. Virgo sees reality in sharp terms. At the same time, the Virgin is also an idealist who sees how good everyone and everything could be, in an ideal world. The gap between reality and the perfect ideal is the territory that you have to navigate carefully. If you don’t, you become carping and impossible to satisfy. You pick people apart, harping on their flaws or criticizing what they do or how they do it to the point that they can’t stomach being around you. Maybe you act disruptively in the workplace, making a mess while others are trying to get something productive accomplished. Maybe you act irresponsibly in your personal life (for example, cheating on your romantic partner, who discovers it and divorces you). Perhaps you accept the wrong sorts of responsibilities, such as agreeing to conceal evidence that someone else committed a crime.

If you act like a conformist drudge, then you invest a lot of energy in keeping your uniqueness and vibrancy under wraps. You become consumed with giving others what they want, with trying to keep life calm and orderly, when what you really need are responsibilities that allow you to express yourself with greater freedom and spontaneity. In this case, you might find yourself dealing with someone else (such as an abusive romantic partner) whose behavior disrupts your work routine.

Like a rigid whiner, you could spend more time harping on details or griping about what other people are or are not doing than you do developing your own identity. Rather than act more freely, you try to keep yourself and others cooped up in cages, such as jobs that don’t suit you.

If you make the best of your Uranus, then there’s an element of uniqueness and commitment to how you approach your work or other duties. You could behave like a free-spirited craftsperson, a liberated martyr, or an innovative servant.

If you act like a free-spirited craftsperson, then you bring a strong, independent sense of identity to learning or serving others. You express your individuality in an experimental, creative way, neither mindlessly conforming to other people’s expectations nor mindlessly rebelling against them. You follow the beat of your own drum, and it may or may not happen to match other people’s wants or demands. You might startle or shock people at times, but it’s a byproduct that reflects the independent thinking and living that you do, based on what you need in order to be true to yourself. You’re like a member of royalty who acts unconventionally. On one hand, you’re willing to dutifully serve your people. On the other hand, you’re also hell-bent on conducting yourself as you see fit--regardless of how people expect someone in your position to act. Sure, some tongues in the village wag, but you’re living your life creatively, on your own terms. Part of what you’re crafting is yourself. You work at becoming the best employee or volunteer or friend that you can be, and part of doing that involves becoming your own person. You take a painstaking yet visionary approach to unconventional or inventive pursuits. For example, maybe you invent a new means of transportation, or you become an engineer. You might become a master of reiki or some other alternative medical treatment.

If you act like an innovative servant, then you blaze a new trail to contribute something of value to others. You’re the lawyer who starts a firm to serve victims of domestic violence who otherwise would not be able to afford legal services. You’re the scientist who helps improve global access to food, or the entrepreneur who starts an airline.

Like a liberated martyr, you could make sacrifices for the sake of advancing some cause or principle that’s important to you. Instead of waiting for someone to come along and led you or rescue you, you take matters into your own hands. You’re like the daring dissident in a pro-democracy movement who’s determined to change the system. As a consequence of acting independently, you attract the sorts of people who can appreciate your uniqueness and believe in what you’re doing enough to collaborate with you. Perhaps you take it upon yourself to raise money for a pediatric cancer foundation or some other organization that is doing good work.

Whether you’re an engineer or a magician, a bodyguard or a tennis player, you strike a healthy balance between acting responsibly toward yourself and acting responsibly toward others. You ask other people for advice, or you ask them to teach you how to do things, and you don’t settle for just anyone who wants to feel important or take charge of your life. You hold out for mentors or helpers who encourage you to explore unconventional areas and develop the sorts of skills that you find it exciting to use.

If you dare to go down such paths, then you’ll feel both competent and liberated. You’ll lead a richer, more colorful life.
