You have an Aries Ascendant.
The Ascendant is the sign that was rising over the eastern horizon at the moment that you were born. When you came into the world, Aries was rising over the eastern horizon of the city in which you were born. In other words, the Ascendant is how the sun appears at dawn, how the sun appears at the first moment of the day.
Similarly, the Ascendant represents how you appear upon first contact with other people. It is your style or social mask. That doesn’t mean that you present yourself dishonestly. What happens is that we all must present a simplified version of who we are in day-to-day life. It’s not possible for us to communicate everything that we are to each and every person that we deal with during the course of a day. In addition, we all feel more comfortable in showing some of our personal characteristics to the world than others.
The Ascendant also represents how you can feel centered. It’s how you feel at ease and comfortable in yourself. If you receive the Ascendant’s message, your style connects with the world of your experience in a way that feeds your spirit with essential kinds of events and relationships. Your soul feels more enthusiasm for life, and you feel confident and graceful.
You have the Ascendant in independent, pioneering Aries—the sign of the Daredevil, the Survivor, and the Warrior. With this Ascendant, you have the potential to share your courage, fighting spirit, and energetic trailblazing ability with the world in a very immediate manner. In order to feel comfortable in your “skin,” you need to become brave. As part of your modus operandi, you need to confront your inner fears, meet people with bold directness, conquer some physical challenge, or fight for some cause. The Ram requires adventure. The main hazards to beware of with this rising sign are underdoing and overdoing the idea of aggression. If you underdo it, you give into your fears rather than acting in spite of them. You feel like a coward, knowing that you’re being less than you could be. You become like a soldier with no battle to fight. You lose your focus and drive, and you become irritable or resentful. If you overdo the daring, then you act like a warmonger, or a bully, or a reckless fool. You do whatever you want, whenever you want, without considering the consequences for others (or even yourself, perhaps). You get into petty bickering or explosive battles of will with other people.
If you make healthier choices for expressing your Arian drive, then you act boldly, but you don’t go off half-cocked. You don’t act like a loose cannon. You assert your rights if others try to infringe on them, but you also respect their rights. You sharpen your spirit and hone your will by fighting worthwhile battles. Maybe you literally climb mountains. Maybe you advocate for others’ needs. Maybe you become a daring real estate agent, who goes the distance to make the sale and satisfy the customer. It doesn’t matter so what you do it. What really matters is that you do it. Whatever battle you fight, it helps you feel at ease and confident, and others see you in a similar light. That’s your Aries Ascendant. Now let’s look at your Libran Descendant.
Just as the Ascendant marks the beginning of your 1st house of style, the Descendant marks the beginning of the house that sits opposite this (your 7th house of intimacy). Like the 7th house, the Descendant represents how you approach forming and maintaining close ties with others. Such ties could include those of a business, romantic, or platonic personal nature--those with significant others, close friends, business partners and clients. This house also represents adversarial relationships since, with those, we also come into direct contact with others in a significant one-to-one manner. This includes people such as opposing parties in lawsuits and competitors in business. You have the sign of Libra on the Descendant. With this position, you could build hollow relationships that are based on rich wine and song and a philosophy based on what Leo Rosten said: “The secret of acting is sincerity. One you have learnt to fake that, you are made.” You could get into relationships in which one person becomes lost in the other person’s identity and goes “Yes, dear, whatever you think is best” in order to keep the peace or hold onto the relationship. The two of you could keep the appearance of harmony and intimacy alive, but you might never talk openly about conflicts. Working out conflicts can help draw people closer, but you might miss out on that possibility. Developing a fear of becoming too dependent on someone else could also be a hazard. In that case, you might miss out by keeping acquaintances, romantic partners or business associates at arm’s length, rather than letting then become close friends or committed companions. These are the darker possibilities available here, but you have brighter options, too. If you choose one of those, then you could come together with someone else, as two strong, independent identities that appreciate the virtues of collaboration and interdependence. In that case, the two of you accomplish more together than you could do alone. You work through expecting each other to satisfy your respective images of perfection, and you reach the genuine, special rapport that’s possible on the other side. Yours becomes a relationship of mutual respect, and neither of you worries that the relationship will end once X happens. You can expect it to endure. You enjoy lots of pleasant, maybe romantic, times together, without either of you compromising away your integrity.
